Your files

Ream edits plain Markdown in a folder you choose — your vault. Click the vault name (top-left) to open another folder, or Import from Scrivener, Ulysses, or Bear. Hit sync to back up across devices. The same folder opens in Obsidian or any editor; nothing is locked away.

Writing

Click any paragraph to edit it directly. Hover between paragraphs to reveal the + insert bar — add headings, callouts, dividers, and images (or drag/paste an image straight in). View ▾ → Source shows the raw Markdown whenever you want it.

Hover a block to reveal its delete button; Alt / moves a paragraph, and Z undoes inserts, deletes, moves, and AI rewrites.

Saving & versions

Autosave keeps your draft live (the dot toggles it). Save lays down a restorable version. Open Tools ▾ → Version history to diff or roll back, and name checkpoints you want to find again.

AI help

Highlight text → Ask your editor, or use one-click Rewrite / Shorten / Grammar / Tone — each previews before applying. The right-hand panel chats about the highlighted passage; + starts a general chat. Pick a single editor or a whole panel of them, each with its own voice, plus Newt, the neutral one. The AI is included — no key to wire, no bill to watch.

Story Bible

Under Tools ▾, add characters, places, and facts; the AI reads them to keep your prose consistent. Suggest names finds them automatically, Find in book shows every mention, and AI: check consistency flags contradictions before your readers do.

Find & checks

Find & replace spans the whole book ( F). The consistency check scans for wrong character/type pairings, broken links, and unfinished template text.

Notes

Highlight → Comment for private margin notes (shown in green). The composer opens right at the passage; resolve or delete notes from Tools ▾ → Comments. Saved chats are amber, the open chat is blue.

Look & output

View ▾ → Theme offers 35 presets plus a custom palette. Export the whole book to Markdown, standalone HTML, or Print / PDF.

Shortcuts

First run lets you open, create, or import a vault. sync shows a dot when you have unsynced changes, and can auto-sync after each save.
